Lockport Gallery Reopening Aug. 19

The Lockport Gallery will start by opening Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LOCKPORT, IL — After several months of closure due to the coronavirus, the Illinois State Museum will reopen its Lockport Gallery at 10 a.m. on Aug. 19. All Illinois State Museum branches are now open with free admission and reduced hours, according to a release from the state.

The Lockport Gallery will start by opening Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged. Groups are limited to 10 persons and must register in advance to visit the gallery.

The gallery's new art exhibition, Surplus Scrap, opened March 4, and many visitors did not get the chance to see it before the gallery closed March 14. The exhibition will remain on view through Oct. 10, a release states.

"We are pleased to welcome the public back to Lockport to view Surplus Scrap," said ISM Lockport Director John Lustig in a release. "The exhibition speaks directly to issues of social justice, prison reform, and environmental stewardship. The material used in the creation of the art was destined for the trash. The 23 participating artists have created an experience that honors the past while laying the groundwork for a new future."

The gallery will have several health guidelines in place, including health screenings before entry, face coverings required for everyone over the age of 2 and social distancing. There will also be regularly scheduled cleaning and sanitization of all high-touch surfaces throughout the day.
