Lockport PD Announces Results Of Distracted Driving Enforcement

Lockport Police issued 233 citations during the month of April for the enforcement efforts.

LOCKPORT, IL —During the month of April, the Lockport Police Department participated in Illinois’ Distracted Driving Enforcement campaign, bringing awareness to area residents and issuing 233 citations. The increased enforcement was part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Lockport, and often has life-altering consequence,”
Lockport PD said. “Issuing a citation is a proven way to get motorists to reduce distracted driving.”

During the month-long campaign, Lockport Police issued:

  • 214 electronic communication device citations
  • 2 seat belt citations
  • 1 child car seat citations
  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 1 felony arrest
  • 3 suspended/revoked licenses
  • 2 uninsured motorists
  • 8 other moving/equipment violation
  • 2 drug arrests

“Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but Lockport PD will to continue stopping
drivers for this deadly behavior,” police said.

The Distracted Driving enforcement campaign is supported through federal funds administered by theIllinois Department of Transportation.
