Lockport Police Department Phone Number Used In Phone Scam

LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Police Department has advised residents that there have been reports of individuals receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS. Police said the caller ID showed the call from the Lockport Police Department phone number, 815-838-2132. The person on the phone demanded money to immediately pay a claim for owed taxes.

Police said the phone number is for the Records Section of the Lockport Police Department. The department reminded residents it will never contact you to discuss taxes or any tax debt. The IRS will also never use the police department's phone lines to contact you.

If you receive a phone call from the Lockport Police Department's phone number and are suspicious, inform the caller that you will be hanging up and calling back. You can then call the police department at the 2132 number during normal business hours or at 815-838-2131 after hours to verify if the department called you.
