Lockport Rents Billboard to Help Market Downtown

The city of Lockport has rented the large billboard over the high-level bridge for two years to help market downtown during construction.

LOCKPORT, IL - The city of Lockport has rented the large billboard over the high-level bridge for two years to help market the downtown businesses and events during two major construction projects planned for the downtown. The first, the Commerce Street reconstruction will start this summer, and the second, the State Street construction is set to start in late 2017-2018.

According to a release from the city, it rented the billboard because the city wants people to know that the downtown is still open for “business as usual,” even though portions of Commerce and State Streets will be closed during different phases of construction.

Lockport Mayor Steven Streit said in a release that he is “determined to minimize the construction’s effects on local businesses.”

The city said the first billboard ad is promoting Old Canal Days and can be seen when traveling east on Route 7, over the high-level bridge. This is just one of several ads that will be displayed over the two year period. The city will change out the ads every so often to promote other events or just encourage people to stop and shop/dine in Lockport.

Once updates are available, they will be posted at http://www.cityoflockport.net/439/2017-Projects. For questions or concerns, contact City Administrator Ben Benson at 815.838.0549 ext. 2111.
