LTHS Awarded Illinois Technology Education Program Of The Year

The Program of the Year award was presented as an acknowledgment of the high school's superior technology education program, LTHS said.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Township High School Technology Education Team was honored with the Program of the Year award at the annual Illinois Technology Education Conference Nov. 8 in Normal.

The school said the Technology Education Association of Illinois recognized LTHS faculty Jeff Brown, Chris Davis, Mark De La Vega, Matt Mullins, Rodger Ebert, Dan Mostyn and Corey Duzan. Project Lead The Way teacher Corey Duzan was also honored individually with the “Big Thinker” Award. Duzan was recognized for his creativity and innovative approach to teaching.

According to LTHS, the Program of the Year award was presented as an acknowledgment of the high school’s superior technology education program. The LTHS Career and Technical Education program offers a host of vocational courses, including engineering design, CAD, architecture, 3D design and animation, robotics engineering, STEM exploration, applied technology, introduction to auto and two vocational auto courses, vocational building trades, electricity and electronics, machine tool metals courses, as well and entrepreneurship and internship opportunities.

The school said about 1,800 students, roughly 48 percent of the LTHS student body, are enrolled in technology classes. In addition to high enrollment, the department also sponsors extra-curricular activities such as Technology Club, Robotics Club, Computer Club, SkillsUSA, Auto Club and the Illinois Design Educators Association. These clubs have afforded students unique opportunities to not only develop their skills, but to compete and win at the state and national levels.
