LOCKPORT, IL — Reed School has introduced a new program this year that helps celebrate students with positive recognition. The school said it will spotlight students for their positive contributions within the school setting, whether that be through random acts of kindness, an improvement in behavior, peer assistance, or volunteering to help without being asked.

According to the school, Principal Cathy Slee came across an article in the National Association of Elementary School Principal's Magazine about the #GoodCallOfTheDay Program that a fellow principal had instituted in 2015 and immediately knew it was something she wanted to bring to her building.

Any staff member can nominate a student for recognition. The school said once a student is identified, Principal Slee visits the student's classroom and shares the reason for the recognition. The student receives a #GoodCallOfTheDay wristband, takes a selfie for inclusion on the #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay bulletin board, rings the gong in the front office, and makes a positive phone call home sharing the good news.
