Suspected Lockport Drug Dealer's Arrest Justified: Judge

Cleveland V. Grimes has claimed police arrested him unlawfully during a drug investigation on Connor Avenue.

LOCKPORT, IL - Police officers had the right to stop a man suspected of dealing drugs in Lockport Township more than two years ago, a judge ruled this week, according to a report from My Suburban Life.

Cleveland V. Grimes, 43 was arrested in October of 2014 after allegedly pulling into the driveway of a home in the 300 block of Connor Avenue where a Will County Sheriff’s Office gang unit was investigating the sale of narcotics.

Authorities say Grimes reversed out of the driveway when he saw police and resisted arrest.

Grimes denied ever pulling into the driveway and made claims of unlawful arrest in a federal lawsuit against the police.

An attorney for Grimes says he was only stopped because police knew of his previous history with law enforcement and not tied to a current infraction.

Grimes is currently incarcerated on the charges from that night.
