The Golden Age of Jazz returned to Goodings Grove school today where third- and fourth-grade students presented their “We Haz Jazz” musical to parents and grandparents.
“I’m anxious to get our jazz session started,” a fourth-grader told visitors.
“Jazz is our music -- the music of America,” said another. “We made it, and it made us.”

The musical was directed by the school’s music teacher, Jodi Bordenaro, who began working with students in November.
“Every fourth-grader had to memorize at least one line,” she said. “Everyone rose to the challenge.”

Students sang a number of jazz favorites, including those by Count Basie, Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway.
“This is the happiest music I’ve ever heard,” a student told parents as he and his classmates prepared to sing another number.
