Will County Sheriff Seeks Witnesses to Homer Glen Homicide

Police believe the fatal encounter took place outside of a building in Homer Glen. They're asking anyone who saw something to come forward.

HOMER GLEN, IL — The Will County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help for any information regarding the murder of Oscar Garrido-Castro.

Garrido-Castro, 36, was with Javier Heredia-Rios, 32, at Mora Builders, 12145 W. 159th Street in Homer Glen between 3 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, when an argument between the two men turned deadly.

Heredia-Rios, of the 300 block of North Eastern Avenue in Joliet, was arrested Monday in the death of Garrido-Castro, also of Joliet. The arrest came less than 12 hours after Garrido-Castro's body was found in an abandoned 2004 GMC Envoy in Joliet Township.

Detectives have information confirming that the homicide occurred outside the building and believe that many people were in the area at the time of the incident. The business was closed at the time, and the two men allegedly began to argue about sexual advances that Garrido-Castro made to Heredia-Rios. The altercation escalated, and Heredia-Rios struck Garrido-Castro in the head with a hammer and then strangled him, police said. Heredia-Rios then placed Garrido-Castro into Garrido-Castro’s vehicle and drove it to Rosalind Avenue, west of Farrell Road, in Joliet Township, where he abandoned the SUV, police said.

Bond for Heredia-Rios was set at $2 million Wednesday.
