Wilmington Woman Dies After Lockport Township Car Crash: Coroner

LOCKPORT, IL — A 78-year-old woman has died after a car accident Thursday in Lockport Township, the Will County Coroner's Office said. Mary Lou Smolik, of Wilmington, was pronounced deceased at 6:47 p.m. Thursday at the Amita St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

According to the coroner's office, Smolik was the passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle at Renwick Road and Executive Drive. The Will County Sheriff's Office is reconstructing the accident.

Crest Hill Police told Patch the crash involved a Honda CR-V and a semi-truck. According to police, the Honda and the semi-truck were both traveling eastbound on Renwick Road when the Honda attempted to make a U-turn and struck the semi-truck.

Both occupants of the Honda were taken to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center, where Smolik died.

The driver of the semi-truck did consent to a blood test, police said.

The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date, pending police reports, medical records and toxicology reports, the coroner's office said.
