Fatal July Crash In Lockport Leads To DUI Charge For Woman

LOCKPORT, IL — A 32-year-old Park Forest woman has been charged with four counts of aggravated DUI after a crash in July, which resulted in the death of another woman.

Niara Harris was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility on Thursday, and bond was set at $50,000. She was released Friday.

According to the indictment from Will County Circuit Court, Harris was driving a Jeep Wrangler on I-355 southbound in Lockport on July 2, 2022, when she was in a crash that resulted in the death of a woman who was a passenger in her vehicle.

Harris' alcohol concentration in the "blood, other bodily substance or breath was .08 or more," the indictment reads.

The accident also resulted in great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement to a man who was a passenger in Harris' vehicle.
