The messages are part of a scam designed to deceive recipients into providing sensitive information, clicking malicious links, or sending payments to unauthorized parties.

The Village reminds applicants that it will not initiate permit or business license communications requesting payment via unsolicited email.

All official payments related to permits, licenses, and other Village services are processed exclusively through the Village’s SmartGov platform.

Legitimate emails from Village staff will always originate from an official email address ending in @homewoodil.gov.

"Do not click on links, download attachments, or provide personal or financial information in response to suspicious emails," the Village warned. "If you receive an email that appears questionable or you are unsure of its legitimacy, please contact the Village directly at (708) 206-3856 before taking any action."

Residents, contractors, and business owners are encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when receiving unsolicited communications related to Village business.

"The Village of Homewood is actively monitoring the situation and will continue taking all appropriate measures within our authority to help prevent fraudulent activity and protect our community," the Village said.
