Athlete of the Week: No Stopping H-F's Ehimwenman

Another Invite, another dominating performance for the Viking star.

Homewood-Flossmoor's Abieya Ehimwenman doesn't just win events, she obliterates her opponents.

In the highly competitive Lockport Invite this past Thursday, Ehimwenman was in a class by herself as she won two individual events, led a relay team to victory and set a new meet record.

For those efforts, Ehimwenman has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

Ehimwenman took first in both the long jump and triple jump at Lockport, and she led H-F's 4 x 100 relay team to a first-place finish. She set a meet record in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 01.25 inches.

Though the future Ohio State University student-athlete was impressive, she’s not satisfied.

“I have been doing OK,” Ehimwenman said. “The weather has been weird to accommodate, so I am just trying to prepare for the rest of the meets and stay consistent.”

Despite some cold weather so far this season, Ehimwenman has been red hot and hopes to carry that momentum all the way to the winner’s circle at the state finals next month.
