Homewood police reports, Nov. 26–Dec. 2

Possession of Controlled Substance

Veronica Buchanan, 43, of the 200 block of West 109th Street, Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, driving without a valid license, falure to wear a seatbelt and improper display of registration after a Dec. 2 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Police pulled over Buchanan at about 6:35 p.m., near the intersection of Strieff Lane and Halsted Street, after noticing that her license plate was hanging at an angle from her silver Mazada 3, the report stated. She was taken in to custody when police discovered her license had expired, the report added.

Buchanan told police there was a bottle of pills for her husband in the car, and 60 hydrocodone pills were found with the patient’s name completely removed from the bottle they were in, the report stated.

NOV. 29

Felony Retail Theft

Arthur Boyd, 47, of Gary, Ind., was arrested and charged with felony retail theft and obstructing identification after a Nov. 29 incident at Menards, 17545 Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

The store’s loss prevention officer noticed Boyd take all the K-9 Advantix II and Frontline Plus products off the shelf and put them in his cart, the report stated, adding that these items had been frequently stolen from the chain. As Boyd left the store, the officer noticed the merchandise was no longer in Boyd’s cart and confronted him in the parking lot, the report stated.

A search of Boyd recovered six K9 Advantix II packages and four Frontline Plus packages, totalling $435.80, concealed under his jacket, the report stated.

Battery

Nicholas Atoyabi, 18, of the 2800 block of Walnut Road, was charged with battery after being accused of throwing a beverage through the drive-through window at McDonald’s, 17740 Halsted St., and hitting an employee, according to Homewood police reports.

Atoyabi was released on bond, and his court date is Dec. 29.

Possession of a Firearm

Andrew Jones,31, 14000 block of Park Avenue, Dolton, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, driving without a rear registration light and operating an electronic communication device while driving after a Nov. 29 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

At about 10:47 p.m., an officer noticed Jones’s vehicle didn’t have a working rear registration light and also observed him texting while he was driving eastbound on 183rd Street from Dixie Highway, the report stated.

After the officer pulled over Jones in the 1700 block of West 183rd Street, he noticed a loaded, black, semiautomatic handgun on the passenger seat, the report stated. The officer also noticed a large glass car, containing a two plastic bags filled with a green plant material that was later determined to be marijuana, the report added.

NOV. 28

Retail Theft

Two teens were accused of stealing almost $350 worth of merchandise Nov. 28 from a department store, according to Homewood police reports.

Dawson Ellis, 18, of the 17500 block of Central Park Avenue, Hazel Crest, and Darius Hayes, 19, of the 17500 block of Country Club Way, Country Club Hills, were both charged with retail theft for allegedly trying to take $347 worth of items from Kohl’s, 17620 Halsted St., without paying for them, the report stated.

Both teens were released on bond, and their court dates are Dec. 24, the report added.

DUI

Daryl Sullivan, 18, 1600 block of Princeton Road, Flossmoor, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, disobeying a stop sign and driving without lights after almost hitting a police vehicle Nov. 28, according to Homewood police reports.

At about 7:29 p.m., Sullivan was driving southbound in the 18400 block of Homewood Avenue in his silver 2014 Mercedes 250 without the headlights on, the report stated. Sullivan came “dangerously close” to hitting a marked Homewood police SUV before running a stop sign at Willow Road, then turning westbound onto that street, the report added.

After stopping Sullivan at the intersection of Willow Road and Homewood Avenue, police noticed a strong odor of freshly burnt marijuana coming from inside the car, the report stated. Sullivan’s eyes also were bloodshot and glazed over, and his demeanor was sleepy, lethargic and slow, according to the report. Police also noticed a plastic bag filled with a green, leafy substance that later tested positive as pot sitting in plain view on top of his right thigh, the report added.

Sullivan was released on bond, and his court date is Jan. 9.

NOV. 26

DUI

Siedah Thompson, 26, of the 1100 block of Ranchwood Drive, Shorewood, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and driving without insurance after a Nov. 26 seatbelt enforcement stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Stolen Laptop

A laptop computer was reported stolen between 5 p.m. Nov. 25 and 9:11 a.m. Nov. 26 from a car parked in the 18600 block of Highland Avenue, according to Homewood police reports. The car was accidentally unlocked, the report stated.

NOV. 25

Retail Theft

Robert Mattison, 51, of the 18600 block of Gottschalk Avenue, was arrested and charged with retail theft after being accused of stealing a bottle of vodka Nov. 25 from Walt’s Food Store, 2345 183rd St., according to Homewood police reports. Mattison’s court date is Dec. 24.
