Western Avenue held its annual Career Day on Tuesday, May 22. Mrs. Nancy Larocca, 5th grade teacher, planned the program this year and invited parents to come to the school to discuss their careers with our students. We are very fortunate that we were able to have a variety of career fields represented each year. This gives students the opportunity to learn about different professions that they may not have considered focusing on as they move through their educational careers. The students also shared that they love Career Day because it is “very interesting to learn about what our friends’ parents do.” Another student shared that “now she has more careers to add to her list that she has been generating since first grade.” One of our teachers also shared that the students really enjoyed this experience because the presenters "highlight how their career relates to their lives.” Additionally, we had our very own Dr. Amy Warke, Director for Learning and Instruction for Flossmoor School District 161 present at our Career Day!
