District 153 Students Excel at Local Special Olympics

Neal Caauwe and Marc Ramirez from School District 153 turned in medal winning performances at the recent Area 7 Special Olympics Games. Caauwe now heads to the state games in June.

Two student-athletes from District 153 excelled at the Area 7 Special Olympic Games held May 4th at Thornwood High School.  Neal Caauwe, a 7th-grader at James Hart School, and Marc Ramirez, a 5th-grader at Millennium School, both medaled at the local competition. 

Ramirez, a first-time participant, earned a silver medal in the 50 meter run and came in fourth-place in the softball throw.

In addition to a silver medal in the softball throw, Caauwe took the gold medal in the 50 meter run, qualifying him for the state Special Olympics Games at Illinois State University, June 14-16.  In March, Caauwe qualified for the state winter games in basketball skills where he earned a fourth-place finish.
