Infant Jesus of Prague Students honored in Patriot's Pen Competition

Patriot’s pens were lifted at Infant Jesus of Prague School in honor of the founding fathers of the United States of America. Students were asked to reflect on the importance of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and events which built a foundation for freedom for our country. Students’ who were rewarded for their efforts were 8th grader, Mary Catherine Dull and7th grader, Charles Schenk.
They crafted stories in honor of the country’s pioneers. They contributed their efforts for the Patriot’s Pen, a nationwide contest, sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars. The question posed to the junior high students was, “What would I tell America’s founding fathers?”
When asked what his response was, 7th grader, Schenk responded, “I thank the founding fathers because they helped to shape the nation through the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.”
8th grader, Dull echoed the gratitude, saying, “As an 8th grader, I have a new appreciation of the founding fathers because we took the Constitution test this year.”
The winners will be acknowledged for entries and present them at Aurelio’s Pizza in Homewood on President’s Day, Monday, February 18, 2013.
