Students Accelerate in Reading

Several students from fourth through eighth grade at St. Joseph Parish School have met their first quarter personal reading goals through the Homewood school’s Accelerated Reading Program.

According to school librarian, Mrs. Carol Zakaras, the Accelerated Reading Program, “motivates, assesses, and manages outstanding and popular literature-based reading. Its main purpose is to enable powerful practice reading to increase comprehension. Students are tested to determine their reading range to optimize their reading growth. Like anything else we learn, the more we practice reading, the better a reader we become.”

4^th Grade: Brandon Eddy, Kayla Hamer, Michelle Hargens, London Hatch, Dylan Houston, Abigail Koran, Christian Lively, Jeremy Lott, Lauren Rose, and Samara Swire. 5^th Grade: Elise Banuelos, Anna Gsell, Dishawn Plaxico, and McKenzie Sullivan. 6^th Grade: Lindsey Coleman, Nia Flynn, Jaya Hall, Kristin Harrell, Lauren Hatch, Jada Houston, Kendal  Johnson, Chandler Kerr, Mary Kate Lynch, Jordan Plaxico, and Erik White. 7^th Grade: Steven Babick and Jasmine Jackson. 8^th Grade: Daniel Hill, Khafre Irby, Kyle Johnson, Summer Reyes, Sydney Reyes, Ashley Santos, and Joseph Williams.
