Brick through a Window
Devonte Johnson, 21, of the 1200 block of Peggy Lane, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property after being accused of throwing a landscaping brick July 14 through the window of a home in the 18300 block of Carpenter Street, according to Homewood police reports.

JULY 12
Retail Theft

Victor Hampton Givan, of the 600 block of Glenwood Lansing Road, Glenwood, was arrested and charged with retail theft after being accused stealing men’s clothing July 12 from Kohl’s, 17620 S. Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.
The store’s security agent noticed Givan take clothing items into a changing room and exit the room without them, the report stated. A check of the room uncovered empty packs of men’s underwear, socks and a package of men’s T-shirts with two shirts missing, the report added.
Givan then left the store without paying for the items, and store security detained him until police arrived, the report stated. The cost of the merchandise Givan stole was valued at $76.
Domestic Theft
James Soto, 32, of the 14700 block of South Whipple Street, Posen, was arrested and charged July 12 with domestic theft, obstructing identification and driving with a suspended license after being accused of driving off with a woman’s purse before ditching it on the side of the road, according to Homewood police reports.
Soto picked up the victim at about 8:05 p.m. at her house, and the two drove to Buffalo Wild Wings, 17510 S. Halsted St., the report stated. At the restaurant, the victim got out of the car, but Soto then drove off with her purse still in the vehicle, the report added.
When police caught up with Soto, he said he noticed the purse in his car and threw it somewhere in the 14700 block of Wood Street in Harvey, the report stated. Soto and police then searched that area for the purse, the report added.
Eventually, the purse was found, but the following items were missing:
- a Samsung cell phone
- the victim’s driver’s license
- a $5 bill
The missing items were valued at $835.
SATURDAY, JULY 11
Stolen Mountain Bike
A purple, black and silver GT mountain bicycle was reported stolen July 11, according to Homewood police reports.
The owner told police that the bike was stolen between 9 a.m. July 4, and 8 p.m. July 9, from his home’s garage in the 18300 block of Morris Avenue, the report stated.
FRIDAY, JULY 10
Battery
Beverly Harris, 37, of the 700 block of 164th Place, South Holland, was arrested and charged with battery after being accused of spitting in another woman’s face, according to Homewood police reports.
Harris and the victim were both shopping at about 6:52 p.m. July 10, at Joann Fabrics, 17920 Halsted St., the report stated. Harris then walked up to the victim and spat in her face, the report added. The report does not say what prompted Harris to do this or if she knew the victim.
The victim then tried to flee the area, but Harris stopped her vehicle as she was trying to leave the parking lot, the report stated.
MONDAY, JULY 6
Felony Retail Theft
Aubrey Alexander, 26, of Glenwood, was arrested and charged July 6 with felony retail theft after he was accused of scamming his employer, Office Max, out of more than $400 in cash and a gift card in May, according to Homewood police reports.
The loss prevention agent for the store, 17825 Halsted St., witnessed Alexander and another man using reprinted receipts to fraudulently return merchandise that hadn’t been purchased May 6, the report stated. The two men used these false returns to get back $102.99 in cash and $350.95 in a gift card, the report added.
