Bus Aide Choked Boy Who Wouldn't Clean Up Mess: Police

Flossmoor police say a video shows a bus aide choking an 11-year-old boy who refused to clean up his mess.

FLOSSMOOR, IL - A bus aide has been charged in a case where police officials say an 11-year-old boy was choked on a bus for not cleaning up a pile of spilled food. Flossmoor police charged Jessica Roberts, 37, of Calumet Park with two counts of aggravated battery to a minor in connection with an April 6 incident outside Parker Junior High School.

Flossmoor Deputy Police Chief Tod Kamleiter said an investigation by the police department and Flossmoor School District 161 resulted in charges filed against Roberts on May 11.

Kamleiter says a surveillance video shows Roberts choking the boy after the bus arrived at Parker that day.
Police were called to the school by the administration, who told them about the incident between the aide and the student. Witnesses told police the student spilled food on the bus and was told to clean it up by Roberts.

When he refused, Roberts "blocked and battered" the boy as he tried to leave the bus, Kamleiter said, adding that the video then confirmed the student's claims that he had been choked.
