How long has Chuck's House of Magic been in Homewood?

Chuck (my husband) and I opened our first magic, costume and novelty store in Chicago Heights in September of 1982. Within months we began offering singing telegrams, balloon decor and deliveries. Our venture into the balloon business, along with our magic, costumes and "everything fun" has been a wonderful way to make a living for the past 29 years!

What advice would you give those who would like to open a business in the H-F area?

Our advice to those opening a business in this area is to be the best in
what you do and offer the local residents the personal service that the
"big box" stores cannot. This is a community that is loyal to the small
businesses.

Do you participate in any local community events?

We love Homewood Days and have had a booth over the majority of years we
have been here. Chuck's has installed the balloon drop for the Family New
Year's Eve (Noon drop!) at the Auditorium the past several years
along with about 20 other balloon drops. Some reaching all the way north to the
Aragon Ballroom! Garrett's (Joyce and Chuck's son) favorite event is the 4th of July parade in Homewood.

What about local organizations?

Our personal volunteer involvement has included the Cancer Support Center,
Prairie State College, Glenwood School and many other organizations. We
believe in giving back to the communities and organizations that support
our business.

What are your favorite local spots to eat and or shop at?

Ever since we opened our business 29 years ago we have been involved in
the and have promoted "Shop Local." My personal favorite restaurant is in Flossmoor, but we
frequent ,, , and ,
as well as most of the other food establishments in the area since we do
need to eat 2-3 times a day! Our entire family shops locally for most of
our needs.

Any upcoming events or specials?

We are encouraging our clients to sign up for our new email program to
receive our specials as well as coupons on a monthly basis. Graduation season is upon us and we recommend clients ordering their balloons, linens and entertainers now.
