CPD Superintendent Crashes Teacher Retirement Party To Give Thanks
Eddie Johnson of the Chicago Police Department showed up at a celebration for Heather Hill School teacher Sue Aylmer.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The city of Chicago’s top cop made the trip to south suburban Flossmoor on Wednesday to give thanks to a retiring teacher who he says played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of his life. Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson was in Sue Aylmer’s sixth grade class back in 1972 at Mount Vernon School in Chicago. More than 40 years later, Johnson came to celebrate at a retirement party held for Aylmer at Heather Hill School where she ended her career.
Johnson’s appearance was a surprise, ABC-7 and other Chicago TV stations have reported. But that didn’t mean Aylmer had a tough time remembering Johnson the sixth grader.
"Eddie always had good common sense and sometimes a little jokester,” she said. “I just remember he was a good kid, always wanted to help out.”

Johnson said it was her and other teachers he will always show gratitude for believing in him.
"I can remember her taking time, with all of us, to make sure we were on the path and learning what we were supposed to learn, not only just in school but how to be good people," he said of Aylmer.
