Criminal Trespass, DUI, Phony $100 Bill: Blotter
Homewood police reports, June 28–July 5

SUNDAY, JULY 5
DUI
Nolan Heidelberg, 27, of the 23400 block of Western Avenue, Park Forest, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit, illegally transporting open alcohol, speeding and improper lane use after a July 5 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Police pulled over Heidelberg at about 12:31 a.m. after noticing him driving his brown Chrysler 200 erratically and over the speed limit going eastbound on 183rd Street, near Riegel Road, the report stated. During the stop, the officer reported that Heidelberg’s speech was mumbled and his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy.
Heidelberg failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody, the report stated. A vehicle inventory revealed an open bottle of Hennessy Cognac, a six pack of Heineken beer and two plastic cups filled with about an ounce of an alcoholic beverage, the report added.

SATURDAY, JULY 4
Phony $100 Bill
James Gamino, 22, of the 17300 block of Throop Street, East Hazel Crest, faces a misdemeanor deceptive practices charge for trying to pay for fast food with a phony $100 bill on Independence Day, according to Homewood police reports.
The manager at McDonald’s, 17740 Halsted St., told police Gamino came into the restaurant with two other people and used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for one food item. The manager told Gamino she had to go in the back to make change, but instead she called police, the report stated.
When police arrived, the people accompanying Gamino left, and Gamino tried to exit, too, leaving behind the food and the fake bill, the report stated. The manager, however, identified Gamino to police, the report added.
FRIDAY, JULY 3
DUI, No Seatbelt
Edward Grice, 31, of Cedar Lake, Ind., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and driving without a seat belt after a July 3 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.
Police pulled over Grice at about 2:42 a.m. after his 1995 red Buick LeSabre was seen swerving northbound in the 19100 block of South Halsted Street, the report stated. During the stop, the officer reported that Grice’s speech was slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Grice then failed field sobriety tests at the scene, the report added.
Stolen Purse
A purse was reported stolen from a parked car in the lot of Blueberry Hill Restaurant, 2155 W. 183rd St., according to Homewood police reports.
The purse was stolen sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 2:31 p.m. on July 3, the report stated. The back passenger window of the vehicle also had been broken, the report added.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 1
Criminal Trespass
Kavon Allen, 25, of the 17000 block of Winchester Avenue, Hazel Crest, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass after he was caught climbing out of a vacant residence in the 1800 block of 182nd Place, according to Homewood police reports.
MONDAY, JUNE 29
Retail Theft
Michael Mumphus, 53, of the 11300 block of Church Street, was arrested and charged with retail theft and criminal trespass for stealing candy from Walt’s Food Store, 2345 W. 183rd St., according to Homewood police reports.
Mumphus allegedly took candy from a Fannie May display, put it into a store bag and then left without paying, the report stated. When Mumphus was approached in his car in the parking lot, the bag of candy was found in the back seat, the report added.
The passenger in the car, Stacy Taylor, also was found to have been given a no trespass warning April 26 along with Mumphus, the report stated. Taylor, 43, of the 15200 block of South Ashland Avenue, Harvey, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.
SUNDAY, JUNE 28
Felony Retail Theft
Michael Perry, 34, of the 2200 block of Poplar Street, Sauk Village, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after being accused of stealing from Kohl’s, according to Homewood police reports.
An employee of the store, 17620 S. Halsted St., noticed Perry take two boxes of different size Nike shoes—size 9 and size 10—and remove the tags from one of the pairs, the report stated. Perry then went to the customer service counter and asked to exchange the size 10 shoes for the size 9 pair, the report added.
The shoes were valued at $65, according to the report.
