The Cook County Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit brough Cargile back to Illinois on Monday after she was arrested in Salina, KS, on Dec. 11, when police there learned of her warrant during a traffic stop.

Cargile, along with the hospital’s veterinarian, Amardeep Sangha, 54, of Naperville, had each been charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and violating owner’s duties after horrific conditions were discovered inside the hospital in September.

A Dolton police officer dropping off a stray dog at the hospital at 15022 Lincoln Ave. where the village had a contract to house lost pets found dead dogs inside their cages and other pets in endangered conditions. the Sheriff’s Office said.

Necropsies determined that three of the four deceased dogs found in cages had died from non-accidental chronic starvation. A fourth dog’s death was ruled inconclusive.

The surviving dogs were brought to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, where some of them had to be nursed back to health. The animal shelter had planned to put the dogs up for adoption.

The pair were indicted by a Grand Jury last month and charges were upgraded to three felony counts each of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Cargile was ordered held on no bond during a brief court appearance on Monday. Her next scheduled court date if scheduled for Tuesday (Dec. 23) in Markham.
