DUI

Russell A. Bouie, 36, of the 17200 block of Holmes Avenue, Hazel Crest, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, disregard for traffic control signal and driving without insurance after a Jan. 11 traffic stop, according to Flossmoor police reports.

An officer followed Bouie in the maroon Ford Taurus he was driving at about 1:14 a.m. going northbound on Kedzie Avenue because the car’s trunk was open, obscuring the vehicle’s back license plate, the report stated. At at red light at Kedzie and Governors Highway, Bouie stopped halfway into the intersection, blocking the outside northeast-bound lane of traffic, the report added.

The officer pulled over Bouie at 194th Street and Kedzie Avenue, and during the stop, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Bouie’s vehicle, the report stated, adding that Bouie also slurred his words. When the officer asked for a driver’s license, Bouie pulled out a pile of credit, ID and gift cards, the report stated. After three minutes looking for the license, the officer asked for Bouie’s work ID and use that to check his background, the report added.

Eventually, Bouie, who said he had not been drinking, agreed to field sobriety tests at the scene and failed them, the report stated. After being taken into custody, he would not submit to a breath test, the report added.
