This holiday season area parents can give their kids the gift of having something interesting to say when asked, "What did you do during Winter Break?" by signing them up for the H-F Park District's Camp Frosty to be held at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center. Each day will feature different themes and activities:
- Monday, Dec. 27 – Flaky Fun. Spend the day experimenting with the wonders of winter. Learn how snowflakes form, make snow, rainbow ice and more.
- Tuesday, Dec. 28 – Winter Olympics. Venture to the H-F Ice Arena in Flossmoor for an ice-skating class. Come back to Irons Oaks to play some Olympic-themed games. Grades 4 and up will try cross-country skiing in the woods.
- Wednesday, Dec. 29 – Tasty Treats. Make bird feeders from pine cones and treats for the squirrels. At the end of the day, campers will make their own healthy snack, also.
- Thursday, Dec. 30 – Rockin' New Year. Start your countdown early! This fun-filled day will include noisemakers, a noon countdown and making a time capsule to remember 2010. End the year with a campfire and s'mores.
Camp Frosty is for kids in Grades K-6 and runs from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Irons Oaks, 20000 S. Western Ave., Olympia Fields, each day. Advanced registration fee is $26 per day or $84 per week. At an additional cost, before- and after-camp options are available to extend the camp day from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for working parents.
