FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Village of Flossmoor is recruiting for a new chief of police, with Flossmoor Police Chief Tod Kamleiter set to retire in December after 26 years with the department, the Village announced Thursday.

Kamleiter's retirement comes as the department awaits the Illinois State Police's completion of an investigation into a fatal police shooting, and conducts an investigation into a Homewood-Flossmoor High School student's claim of sexual assault by another on school premises.

The change also follows a shift in deputy chief, with the August 2022 appointment of Keith Taylor to replace now-retired Clinton Wagner, who served more than 20 years in the department. Taylor has been with the department since 2009.

Kamleiter joined the Flossmoor Police Department in 1996 as a full-time patrol officer, the Village said in a release. After completing the Cook County Police Academy, Kamleiter was promoted to the role of detective. Kamleiter continued his advancement through the Flossmoor Police Department when he was named patrol sergeant in 2004, the Village said.

Serving under the leadership of then-Chief Mike Pulec, Kamleiter earned the title of deputy chief in 2013. Following Pulec’s retirement in May 2019, Kamleiter served as interim police chief until his official appointment as police chief in October 2019.
