Flossmoor Police Ramp Up Impaired Driving Patrols For St. Patrick's Day Stretch
The campaign runs now through March 17, focusing on impaired driving and seatbelt use.
FLOSSMOOR, IL — To remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving and to help keep streets safe, the Flossmoor Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Illinois State Police for a stepped up traffic-safety campaign March 13-23.
“With St. Patrick’s Day falling mid-week Tuesday, we expect celebrations throughout the week, plus on the weekends before and after,” said Flossmoor Police Chief Carl Estelle.
“We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly. Plan for a sober ride home before you leave your house, as your safety and the safety of others depends on it.”

During the enforcement period, Flossmoor Police Officers will be looking for drivers impaired by alcohol and cannabis, along with other drugs, that can affect driving. Officers will also be stepping up seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night. Speeding, distracted driving and all traffic laws will be strictly enforced throughout the Village.
Whether you’re attending a party, hosting friends or going out to a bar or restaurant, keep safety at the forefront. When it’s time to leave, make sure your designated driver is sober. Remember that walking or biking while impaired can also be dangerous, so choose a sober friend to go with you. Designated drivers should be alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs, Estelle says.

He shares these other important tips and reminders:
- It is never okay to drive impaired; designate a sober driver or plan to use a ride service to get
home safely. - If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 911 to report it.
- Take away keys from an impaired friend who is about to drive home and help them find a safer
way. - Always buckle your seat belt when in a vehicle.
The Flossmoor St. Patrick’s week enforcement effort is made possible by federal highway safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, administered by IDOT. For more information, please contact Flossmoor Police Sgt. Mark Cagle at 708-957-4500 or mcagle@flossmoor.org.
