Four Reasons Why Homewood Days is a No Go

Homewood Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Lucia tells Patch what ultimately led to the cancellation of Homewood Days 2012.

By now, the news that Homewood Days 2012 has been cancelled has probably sunk in the minds of most area residents.

 President Debbie Lucia gave Patch four reasons why the Chamber ultimately decided to postpone the event until next year.

The main issues that pushed the Chamber into deciding to cancel the event this year included: 

  • Fencing of the event, whether 4ft or 6ft, that is highly recommended by the police for crowd control.
  • Cost to supply security, clean-up, entertainment, etc (i.e. $5 daily entrance fee, strongly suggested to be all day).
  • Footprint - attempt to make a smaller community event by moving off of Ridge & Dixie.
  • Apparent lack of support from the .

, village officials voted against a $30,000 "to assist with the (financial) shortfall created" by the cancellation.

“I can’t say I was expecting ‘no,’” Lucia said after the decision. “I am somewhat disappointed that (the village is) not looking to help us in any type of financial support, but I understand what they said.”
