Gun Threats Made To Homewood-Flossmoor High School

One person is in custody after a pair of apparent threats made to the school for Monday.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Homewood-Flossmoor High School will remain open on Monday after a weekend of social threats directed at the school. Screenshots on social media pages show two Instagram posts from Saturday with photos of guns and an apparent threat for Monday at the school.

"We received a copy of two social media posts from a concerned member of the community," school officials wrote in a letter to parents. "The posts displayed a gun and threats against the school on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018."

A second threat made Sunday morning was determined to be a copycat, the Homewood-Flossmoor Chroniclereported.

High School officials helped lead Flossmoor police to a suspect in the Saturday attack. A 16-year-old has been charged with a felony. Charges were still pending as of Sunday afternoon.

Both police and the school issued statements about the serious nature of a school threat.

"The Flossmoor Police Department and Homewood-Flossmoor High School take all threats against students and faculty very seriously," police wrote in an e-cop blast to residents. "We thank Homewood-Flossmoor High School and the public for their cooperation in our efforts."

The letter to parents called any threat against the school community "unsettling."

"We want to reassure students, staff and families that the authorities will be holding the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law and that the school will be seeking appropriate disciplinary action.," it read, in part.
