H-F Girls Soccer Squad Kicks It Up Another Notch

After outscoring their first 12 opponents by a 52-goal margin, the Vikings will see their competition intensify starting this weekend.

Homewood-Flossmoor’s girls soccer team has been on a roll all season. After their 4-1 victory over Lincoln-Way East, the Vikings improved to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference. 

Goals by Kelly Lewers, Emma Kay, Haley Hruska and Hope Hruska supplied the offense.

With Lewers leading the offensive charge, the Vikings have outscored their first 12 opponents by a 54-2 margin and have recorded 10 shutouts.

The Vikings will see their competition increase mightily the rest of the regular season as they travel to Burlington, Iowa, this weekend, host Bolingbrook on Tuesday and visit Sandburg on Thursday (6 p.m.). Sandburg’s Eagles suffered their first loss of the season this past Thursday.

Badminton Shuffle

H-F’s badminton team made some changes leading up to its participation in the SouthWest Suburban Blue badminton tournament this past week at Joliet Central.

Taylor Nye, a state qualifier a year ago, switched from No. 1 singles to No .1 doubles, alongside Taylor Hogan. Claire Hamilton became the new No. 1 singles player for the Vikings.

In doubles competition at the conference meet, Hamilton teamed with Val Falvo to take third at No. 4 doubles.

Water Polo Power

H-F’s girls water polo team will be the top seed in the upcoming Lincoln-Way North Sectional. The Vikings are the No. 1 seed, followed by Bremen Co-op, Lincoln-Way East, Andrew and Marian Catholic. 

H-F beat Lockport 13-1 this past week, as Michelle Mayer and Rebecca Mathews each had four goals for the Vikings (22-3 overall and 10-0 SouthWest Suburban Blue).

H-F is also the top seed in the Lincoln-Way North boys water polo sectional, despite a recent 10-9 loss to Lockport. Kevin Kuchta had four goals for the Vikings (19-4-2, 9-1).

Vikings Baseball Team Cools Off

H-F’s baseball team dropped three games in a row after winning nine straight. The Vikings lost 10-7 to Lockport on Monday, as their record dropped to 11-4 overall and 2-4 in conference.

Success on Track

H-F’s boys and girls track and field teams dismantled Joliet Central.  The boys won 79-31 as David McDermott prevailed in the 2-mile run, Julian Johnson won the 110 high hurdles and Matt Dieudonne finished first in the 400.

The girls won by a score of 88-31 as Courtney Salley won 100 high hurdles, Emani Roberts won 300 low hurdles, Eileen Whited captured the 800, Christina Patterson won the high jump and Brianna Trimuel took the pole vault.
