FLOSSMOOR, IL — Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School will present its annual children’s play this month, performed by current high school students. Based on the beloved children’s book of the same name by Harry Allard, Miss Nelson is Missing! will run at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, and Friday, Sept. 30, plus at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the school’s Mall Auditorium. Tickets — $10/adult, $5/student/senior — are being sold online for the performances: https://hfhs.ticketleap.com/nelson/.

Directed by Anne Calderon, H-F Fine Arts & English teacher, with technical direction by Tim Tholl, H-F’s auditorium manager, the play tells the story of grade-school teacher Miss Nelson (Emma Leak) who can't control her classroom because she's just too nice. When she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails substitute teacher Viola Swamp. With the big test approaching, her students suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything — including hiring a private eye, Detective McSmogg (Maleeyah Daggett) — to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back. The cast also features: Cayden Speerbrecker (Principal Humleker); Langston Fantroy (Raymond); Savannah Howard (George Jorgenson, Jr.); Flan Marak (Morris/Mouse); Sam Bouyer (Elvis); Avery Calhoon (Phoebe); Charisma Boler (LaVita); and Moira Michel (Kimberly). Student production assistants are Marissa Diaz, Stella Hoyt, Sullivan Matthys, Gabe McKinney, Tessa O’Keefe and Amy Ward.
