Hazel Crest Metra Station To Get Face Lift

Several improvements are planned at the Metra station in Hazel Crest.

HAZEL CREST, IL -- Metra signed a $3 million contract on Tuesday to hire a firm to renovate its Hazel Crest station at 170th Street and Park Avenue, just north of Homewood limits.

The rail line's board of directors approved the contract with The Bowa Group Inc. of Chicago, which was "the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the contracted work," according to a news release from Metra.

Planned improvements include a new street-level depot with vendor space and restrooms and the replacement of the station's stairways.

“This is a crucial step in one of the most significant station renovation projects in Metra’s 2017 construction program,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “We look forward to giving customers an updated station that will serve as a welcoming gateway to the community for years to come.”

There will also be a new elevator on the north end of the station, making it fully compliant with the Americans with Disability Act.
