Hillcrest HS Alum Earns National Basketball Honor

Yolanda De La Torre named National Player of the Week

Hillcrest High School alumni Yolanda De La Torre was named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the week for Robert Morris University. De La Torre was selected for her performance from the week of Jan. 5 – Jan. 11. She was also selected as the CCAS Conference’s Player of the Week for her accomplishments. Yolanda DeLa Torre is a prime example of what hard work, dedication and commitment can lead to in a person’s life. While at Hillcrest, De La Torre held records in rebounds, assist, blocked shots, steals, and games played.

· De La Torre helped the Robert Morris Eagles to a perfect 3-0 week, including a 71-64 upset victory over then-No. 8 ranked Purdue Calumet (Ind.) on Jan. 10 in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Game of the Week.

· The senior averaged 15 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game in this week’s three contests, including 22 points and 13 boards in the win over Purdue Calumet.

· On the season, the Country Club Hills native, averages 15.4 points per game to go along with 9.8 rebounds. Collectively, she has recorded seven double-doubles on the season.

· The Eagles are now 5-2 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference North Division and 12-3 overall.

· This is De La Torre’s second national award (Feb. 25, 2014).
