Hillcrest HS Art Students Use Their Talents to Paint Murals at Local Church
Art students paint murals in the youth wing of Calvary Baptist Church in Glenwood

Hillcrest High School current and former art students, under the direction of visual arts teacher Mrs. Jamilah Adebesin-Mason, collaborated on a large scale mural for the youth wing of Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood. The students traveled by bus several times a week during the summer months to Glenwood.
“I am extremely proud of these students! This was a large scale project that took approximately three months to complete. For most students, it was their first large scale group art project. It took a team effort to complete the mural,” said Mrs. Adebesin-Mason.
Tarique Bell, Virginia Moore-Miller, Nicholas Robinson, Kendra Warfield, Kennedy Warfield, and Delshawn Wash planned and designed the project that includes popular images, such as Sesame Street characters, Disney characters and scenes, Dr. Seuss characters, and nature landscapes.

“As we were working on the mural, the children of the church seemed very excited, said Mrs. Mason. “They would stop my students as they were working and ask questions and their eyes would light up when they saw their favorite character.”
The mural is available for viewing during church hours. To find out more about the mural or about Hillcrest High School Art Club contact Mrs. Adebesin-Mason at Jadebesin@bhsd228.com.
