Hillcrest HS DECA Attend Career Day at the United Center
Business students learn from Chicago Bulls Operations Team

DECA students recently participated in the 14th Annual Chicago Bulls Career Day at the United Center. Five members of the Chicago Bulls business operations team spoke to several hundred high school business students from the Chicago area. The Directors of Digital, Corporate Sponsorship, Interactive Marketing, Bulls TV Production, Sponsorship and Ticket Sales spoke with the students about their career development process, where they attended college and how it came to be that they were fortunate to land a dream job with a major athletic team. The Directors also answered questions related to job searching and what elements they like least and best about their positions.
The greatest keys to success disseminated to the group included securing internships during college, networking both in-person and with media, and taking advantage of all opportunities, no matter how minor they may seem. “Don’t be afraid to take risks,” advice offered by Josh Kahn, Creative Producer of Bulls TV, and Kaitlyn Hutchinson’s, Ticket Representative, decree of “Do what you have to do, when you want to do it, no matter how you feel about it,” resonated with DECA Senior Kyle Kos. Kos explains, “These words of encouragement helped me to realize what I needed to accomplish goals in the future.” DECA Senior Veronica Legrone gained valuable insight and expounds, “The Chicago Bulls Career Day was a great experience for me. I learned that my major may not be my career and that’s perfectly fine because no matter what I do now in the future, I’ll be successful if I really work hard and put my mind to it.”
The DECA group again brought good luck to the Bulls as they topped the Orlando Magic 98 to 90!
