Hillcrest HS DECA Students Get Ready for Competition

DECA Fall Leadership Conference prepares students for sectional competition

The Hillcrest High School DECA Chapter (Distributive Education Clubs of America) recently attended the 2014 Fall Leadership Conference at Moraine Valley Community College. Students participated in engaging and informative workshops which prepares them for sectional competition. The goal of DECA’s competitive events is to prepare students to be college and career ready. Over 300 DECA members from the south suburbs participated in interviewing and life skills seminars, role play preparation strategies, and written, research, and virtual business events. Lunch was provided by DeVry University and Moraine Valley Community College. Students also had the opportunity to explore their post-secondary education options with both institutions.

Hillcrest High School student Dontavis Gowder described his experience as “an intriguing session where we learned about the online virtual business challenge. In another session, we played a Family Feud parody game which was fun and exciting – Hillcrest won against another school! The session I learned the most from was the role playing presentation. Basically, to do well at the role play, you must know what you are talking about, have knowledge on the situation, and be as mannerly as possible.”
