Hillcrest HS FCCLA Attend Stop the Violence Program

Students learn strategies to prevent violence in schools and the community

Hillcrest High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students traveled to Tinley Park High School to participate in a FCCLA program called “Stop the Violence.” The program empowers youth to use attitudes, skills, and resources to recognize and report youth violence. After attending the informational program, students were able to reach out to their peers with violence prevention techniques, recognize warning signs of potential youth violence, and encourage youth to report troubled behavior. Hillcrest students enjoyed meeting and collaborating with students from the other District 228 schools ( Bremen, Oak Forest, and Tinley Park High School). They worked on posters and listened to three speakers talk about the importance of making themselves and others aware of all types of violence. The students returned to Hillcrest and brainstormed ideas on strategies to prevent violence in schools and the community.
