Hillcrest HS Hosts Advanced Placement Family Night
Benefits of taking Advanced Placement courses discussed

Students, parents, and administrators met to discuss the structure and benefits of taking Advanced Placement Courses at Hillcrest High School. Assistant Principal, Mr. Terrance Simmons, presented the positive growth and benefits of the Advanced Placement (AP) courses over the last three years. Advanced Placement student, Marvin Slaughter, spoke of the challenges and benefits of taking AP courses. “AP courses have helped me develop rigorous study habits and have prepared me for college level courses. There is a higher level of calculation and critical thinking that is required to be an AP student,” stated Slaughter. Representatives from Sylvan Learning Center, DeVry Institute of Technology, and Illinois College Advising Corps were on hand to answer questions and explain the importance of Advanced Placement Courses. Hillcrest High School Assistant Principal, Dr. Maurice Young, ended the evening by explaining the structure of the fees and assessment schedule for the courses to the families, as well as the financial savings for college. Mrs. Renee Simms, Hillcrest High School Principal, stated, “It was an encouraging and informative meeting for our Hillcrest families.” For more information on Hillcrest High School and its AP courses, please contact Mr. Terrence Simmons at Tsimmons@bhsd228.com.
