Hillcrest HS Students Attend Live Taping at GSU

Students attend taping of 'Respond to Violence: Reaching Our Youth' forum

Recently, Hillcrest High School students attended the live taping of “Respond to Violence: Reaching Our Youth” forum at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University. The purpose of “Respond to Violence” (R2V) was to work with citizens, community and civic leaders on solutions to the growing epidemic of violence, while giving voice to those impacted by it. The show was hosted by Michelle Relerford of NBC 5. The line-up included a mix of entertainment and conversation addressing the issue of violence. The program included a panel discussion with Garrard McClendon (former host of CLTV’s Garrard McClendon Live), a reader’s theater (How Long Will I Cry) and performances by DLow (the DLow Shuffle) and social activist rappers Rhymefest and FM Supreme. “The Respond to Violence Forum was a consummate example of what our community can do to subvert destructive behavior through education,” stated Mr. Rudolph Maybell, Paraprofessional at Hillcrest High School.
