Hillcrest HS Students Attend Publication Conference

Newspaper and yearbook students attend So. Suburban Publication Conference

Hillcrest High School newspaper and yearbook student staff hosted the 2014 South Suburban Publication Conference, sponsored by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and held at Moraine Valley Community College.

The conference is an enlightening event to provide students of the yearbook and newspaper staffs, and the faculty advisors, with meaningful exchanges of ideas and knowledge through educational workshops and meetings. High school newspaper sponsors, young aspiring journalists, yearbook designers, photojournalists, and news-bloggers attend workshops to aid with production of yearbook and newspapers. The event consists of an inspirational speaker, followed by sessions offering an abundance of useful topics for beginning journalists.

Hillcrest High School had several presenters at this year’s conference, including: Ms. Kristyn Przysucha, owner of K-Lyn Photography and also an English teacher Hillcrest and Oak Forest High Schools; and Mr. Mike Cicirale, business teacher, photography club sponsor and former yearbook sponsor at Hillcrest High School.

“Eager. That is the first term that comes to mind when I reflect on the members whom attended in the annual publications conference. I was fortunate to present an interactive workshop where students were given opportunities to hone their caption writing and candid photo captioning skills. Each session held many laughs and constructive take-aways,” said Cicirale.
