Homewood Native Remembered as 'Bigger Than Life'

Michael Wexler was a loving uncle, cherished sibling, and passionate actor.

A former Homewood man who died after being struck by a car Saturday was walking home from the train station after arriving to visit family.

Michael Wexler, 52, was hit by a vehicle as he crossed 183rd Street in Homewood about 1 p.m. He was transported to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, and later transferred to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He died following surgery. His death was ruled an accident.

Wexler was a Chicago-based actor who appeared in several commercials. His most recent role was a detective in a Biography Channel show.

“He was an amazing person,” said his brother Ron Wexler during a memorial service. “The whole world was his community.”

Wexler was a graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor HIgh School. He was one of five children. He is survived by his mother and siblings Ron, David Wexler, Evie Plofsky and Bobbi Macdonald, according to his obituary.

The family will sit shiva from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at their residence in Homewood. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, www.tews-ryanfh.com or 708-798-5300.
