During the day, the burglar seeks homes where the homeowner appears to have no pets and is going to back doors and making forcible entry.
The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 40s. He is 5-foot, 7-inches to 5-foot-10-inches tall with a thin build. He has a very dark complexion with a short salt-and-pepper-colored afro.

PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDERS FROM HOMEWOOD PD
Residents are reminded to lock their doors whenever they leave their home. Home Alarm systems should be activated, even when leaving for a brief time. For those without home alarm systems, an inexpensive and effective device is a wireless motion sensor for entry doors or windows, which emits a loud alarm noise. These can be purchased from your local hardware store and installed in minutes. These will likely scare the burglar away or alert neighbors of a problem.
Residents are also encouraged to keep an eye on their neighbors’ homes when they are absent or out of town. Homewood has a great number of streets that participate in Neighborhood Watch Programs. Many of these groups were created from residents who simply got together at their block party and decided to develop a monitoring protocol when a neighbor is out-of-town, or during the day when most neighbors are at work. These groups are very successful in helping the Homewood Police Department maintain the Village’s standard for safety and quality of life. Contact the police department for information on how to create a neighborhood watch program.
