Homewood Rejects Minimum Wage Increase

The village of Homewood opts out of Cook County Board's plan to raise minimum wage to $10 an hour this year.

HOMEWOOD, IL -- Homewood won’t adhere to the minimum wage increase plan Cook County has in place starting July 1. Village trustees voted unanimously to opt out at their most recent meeting, according to a report from the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle.

Several business owners in Homewood spoke up during the public comment section of the meeting to support the village opting out of the hike, which would up the minimum wage to $10 an hour this year and include yearly increases until it is $13 in 2020.

In opting out of the minimum wage hike, the village also rejects the Cook County Board’s sick time requirement, which will require businesses to offer at least one hour of paid sick time for every 40 hours worked.
