How You Can Help Out Kid Victims of Domestic Violence
The South Suburban Family Shelter is hosting its annual "Back to School Angel" program. Find out how you can make a difference in a child's life.

For the fifth year in a row, South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS) is looking for people to "adopt" a child and provide school supplies for him or her. The organization, designed to provide services for victims of domestic violence and their children, has already helped over 350 kids—but many more are in need.
“Parents are trying to figure out how they are going to find the money to send their kids back to school with the things they need, and the kids are worried about being the only child in the classroom without their supplies when school starts," SSFS executive director, Diane Bedrosian said. "Someone can make a huge difference in the life of a family coping with domestic violence by helping them in this way,”

Those interested in "adopting" a child can do so individually, or as a group.
"This is a great opportunity to do community service with your own children because it is something they can relate to and understand," state volunteer coordinators, Karen Smith and Michael Dickover said.

Want to help but too busy to shop? SSFS will gladly do the legwork for you if you'd rather provide a monetary donation or gift cards. Donors can send checks (or cards) payable to South Suburban Family Selter at P.O. Box 937, Homewood, IL 60430.
