Ice Cream Social Will Celebrate Homewood's 125th Anniversary

An ice cream social outside the Gottschalk House will celebrate the village of Homewood's 125th anniversary.

HOMEWOOD, IL - An ice cream social is planned in front of an historic home to celebrate Homewood's 125th anniversary this summer. The event is planned form 1-4 p.m. outside the Gottschalk House at 18101 Martin Ace. on Sunday, July 22.

“We have been celebrating Homewood’s rich history all year long at all of our events,” said Homewood Mayor Richard Hofeld. “This ice cream social gives the community another reason to gather and honor our past while looking forward to a bright future."

Historic photos of Homewood will be on display while patrons can try their hand at traditional outdoor games of the time. Brownies, which made its appearance the same year Homewood was incorporated (1893), will be served in addition to ice cream and toppings provided by the village of Homewood.

Live ragtime music by King Music and a beard growing contest will offer other fun options at the event. Prizes will be given to the one with the longest and most investive style of beard and mustache entered in the contest.

"I wanted to throw my hat in the ring for the beard growing contest but that didn’t go over so well at home,” Hofeld said.
