Injured Lansing Boy Collects For Kids For Christmas

A collection drive is being held to support children in Neonatal and Pediatric ICU's and their families for Christmas.

In June of 2014, Cody Ziemkowski nearly lost his life when he fell off his bicycle and suffered a fractured skull, a brain bleed, and a broken neck. Always looking to help others, Cody didn’t waste any time after his accident in advocating the importance of bicycle helmets and in the past 5 months has inspired over 550 kids to wear them.

Despite complications from his injury, Cody is honored to have been asked to help Tiny Miracles, a premature pregnancy awareness, community involvement and outreach group with their 5th annual ‘Operation Make a Child Smile at Christmas’ collection drive. This year, over 2,000 packages will be made for children and parents who have a child in Neonatal ICU’s and Pediatric ICU’s in South Chicagoland, Chicago, and Northwest Indiana hospitals, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Tiny Miracles was started in part by Dana Mizgate of Valparaiso, Indiana who lost her daughter at 27 weeks and passed in her arms shortly after birth. It was a way for her to cope with the loss of her baby and because she could empathize with the NICU families who wanted their child home for Christmas. Since its creation 5 years ago, Tiny Miracles has brought smiles to thousands of children and families, and is in need of your support to keep bringing Christmas cheer into the areas many hospitals this year.

Items needed this year include but are not limited to: Christmas Stockings, Candy Canes, Coloring Books/Crayons, Books, Toy Cars/Trucks, Action Figures, Barbie and Dress-Up Items, Baby Blankets, Baby Hats, Card and Board Games, Journals, Baby Items, Personal Care Items such as Toothbrushes/Toothpaste, Women’s Personal Hygiene Items, & Toilet Paper/Paper Towels.
