Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center Public Meeting

The Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center would like to invite residents to a public meeting to present the master plan for updating their facility and grounds. The meeting will take place Wednesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Irons Oaks Facility. 

An illustrated map of the master plan will be presented at the meeting displaying concepts that include; an accessible ramp from the upper area to the lower area (designed as an amphitheater), improved trails and trail connections, an outdoor shelter, larger and improved parking, a tot nature play area and tree house play area, boardwalks, a wetlands area, picnic areas along the trails and behind the main office, interpretive signs and an interpretive trail.

These improvements address the needs for increased accessibility, more convenient parking, aesthetic improvements to the facility entrances, connected trails and more visibility along Vollmer Road to help attract more visitors.

Those interested in hearing information about the plan are encouraged to stop by to learn more about the project. Irons Oaks staff will be on site to discuss the particulars of the plan, as well as take questions from attendees

The Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center is a joint project of the Homewood-Flossmoor and Olympia Fields park districts. The near 40-acre nature preserve is home to a diversity of wildlife and habitat types. It is dedicated to enhancing social and natural communities through experiential education services & projects, professional development opportunities, and community initiatives.

The facility is located at 20000 Western Avenue, Olympia Fields.
