Jewel Security Guard Grabbed By Man With Cocaine: Cops

A driver was found with five Xanax pills during a traffic stop in Homewood, according to one recent police blotter item.

The following information is from the Homewood Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Retail Theft

Shakeva Buchanan, 27, of Hazel Crest was charged with retail theft at Jewel, 3153 W. 183rd St. at 11:49 a.m. on Sept. 23. Buchanan concealed items and exited the store without making payment for the items which had a total retail value of $23.63. Buchanan struggled with the loss prevention agent who tried to recover the merchandise.

Marcus Taylor, 47, of Markham was charged with battery and possession of a controlled substance and Levenia Williams, 49, of Markham was charged with retail theft at Jewel at 10:59 p.m. on Sept. 22. Williams concealed items and passed the final point of purchase without making payment for the items which had a total retail value of $69.98. Taylor grabbed the loss prevention agent who detained Williams. Taylor was found to be in possession of approximately 1 gram of suspect cocaine.

Ashley Lesley, 23, of North Chicago was charged with retail theft at Kohl's, 17620 S. Halsted St. at 2:19 p.m. on Sept. 21. Lesley concealed items and passed the final point of purchase without making payment for
the items which had a total retail value of $412.

Possession Of A Controlled Substance

Dontrell Johnson, 21, of Park Forest was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 6:31 p.m. on Sept. 19 during a traffic stop in Homewood. Johnson was in possession of 5 pills of Alprazolam (Xanax) without the required prescription.

Trespassing

Jeremy Darty, 21, of the 19100 block of Pierce Avenue was charged with criminal trespass to real property at Kohl's at 7:10 p.m. on Sept. 20. Darty entered the property after having been given prior notice that he was not allowed in the store.

Unlawful Use Of A Weapon

Cortez Robinson, 24, of Harvey was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and Michael Culley, 18, of Hazel Crest was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of cannabis and cannabis delivery/manufacturing during a traffic stop at 175th and Dixie streets at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. Robinson and Culley, both passengers in the vehicle, were both found to be in possession of a handgun without the required FOID or Conceal Carry License. Culley was also found to be in possession of several individual bags of suspect cannabis that collectively weighed approximately 17 grams.
