Local Librarians Present Program at LWV-HF Area Meeting
Librarians from the Homewood and Flossmoor libraries addressed LWV members at their recent November meeting.

Librarians from the Homewood and Flossmoor libraries addressed the Homewood-Flossmoor League of Women Voters at their recent November program meeting held at the Homewood Library. Judy Wolinsky, Homewood’s Library & Web Services Department Head, and Janet DiCastro, Flossmoor Library’s Adult Program Coordinator, shared some of the innovative services and programs that are offered to patrons of their respective libraries.
Ms. Wolinsky distributed a handout with the names and descriptions of some of the more popular databases and explained each: computer software and technology (Atomic Training), Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center, Home Improvement Reference Center, Job & Career Accelerator, Universal Class (over 500 free online continuing education courses), Geneology databases, Novelist Plus (full text reviews for more than 120,000 works of fiction), Online Book Clubs, and Zinio (read your favorite magazines on your computer or mobile device). Stop in the library to get more information about using these -- and more -- databases, or log on to homewoodlibrary.org/eResources.
Ms. DiCastro talked about Flossmoors “Inspiration Station,” a dedicated area of the library as a “makerspace” -- a community workspace where people can created and explore with technology and hands-on-materials. Patrons can register for a variety of programs geared toward various age groups by calling the library or by going online. Some of the programs offered this winter include: a mixed media art class for ages 15+, Books N’Bites for grades 4-6, Crafts for Teens (grades 6-8), Creating a Valentine’s Day Book Page Heart (ages 12+), an “Anti-Valentine’s” Day Party (ages 12-18) and a scrapbooking workshop.
